Master Assembly Model for Real-Time Multi-User Collaborative Assembly Modeling on the Internet

In this paper, an information model, known as Master Assembly Model (MAM), is introduced to support real-time multi-user collaborative assembly modeling on the Internet. By using UML class diagrams, the MAM is described in detail according to four key aspects: (1) Collaborative Assembly Representation, (2) Multi-View, (3) Coordination Control and (4) Collaborative Session. Finally, a real-time multi-user collaborative assembly modeling system based on this model is suggested. This system makes it possible for different organizations at geographically different locations to work together concurrently and synchronously on the design and modeling of an assembly.Copyright © 2002 by ASME
