A novel UWB planar patch antenna for wireless communications

A novel UWB symmetrical double-beveled planar patch antenna with notch cut fed by a microstrip line is proposed and studied. It is designed for UWB wireless communications. Many techniques have been applied to the designed antenna, which are the use of double bevels, feed gap, partial ground plane and notch cut. The designed antenna can operate over the bandwidth of 161.9% (2.60-17.85 GHz). The parametric study is carried out to optimize the proposed antenna and address the effects of the notch cut, feed gap and double bevels on the proposed antenna characteristics. The antenna provides an acceptable radiation pattern and a relatively flat gain over the entire frequency band. Further simulated and measured results will be discussed during the presentation.
