Trigger Strategies for Standard Diffusion in Interorganizational Networks

When establishing a new technological standard, multiple actors often have to build coalitions toovercometheinertiaof theemergentcollaborationnetworkandtomobilizedecisivelevelsof support.Theauthorssuggestthattheemergenceofastandardinanetworkedfieldcanbestrategically influencedbyfocusingonlyonasubsetofallactors.Thestudydefinedthechoiceofaspecificsetof standard-initializingorganizationsasthetriggerstrategy.Aconceptualmodelwasdevelopedfrom interorganizationalcollaborationasanetworkcomprisedofasetofheterogeneous,interconnected nodes,qualifiedbytheirgroupmembershipandsize.Theauthorsemployednetworksimulations identifyingthevalueofdifferenttriggerstrategies.Dataonanetworkofairlinecollaborationwas usedtoillustratethemodel.Undermostconditionsconsidered,thestudyfoundastrongtriggering potentialofinterrelatedcorecliquesincomparisontoothertriggerstrategies.Theresultssuggest thatthisstrategyshouldreceivemoreattentioninthefuture.
