Transparent ATM LAN Interconnection over ISDN

Narrowband Integrated Service Digital Networks (N-ISDNs) are emerging as key services for multimedia over public networks; at the same time ATM-based hubs [1] are starting to form backbones for providing multimedia services in customer premises networks (CPNs). In this context, it is necessary to be able to interconnect CPNs not only by means of broadband services (ATM or SMDS), but also by means of N-ISDN. (This is of course different from the dual, traditional problem of supporting N-ISDN connections over ATM).
