Case study of landslides recognition using dual/quad polarization data of ALOS/PALSAR

Field investigation of landslides area that distributed in broad area is very tough to engineers. Satellite remote sensing technology has applicability to landslides recognition and mapping of broad area therefore it has possibility to help engineer's work. In order to recognize landslides by satellite imagery, a lot of techniques and methodologies are proposed. In this paper, we focused on the use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for landslide recognition. At the landslides recognition, we must consider a type of landslides to select appropriate methodology. In this paper, we focused on fall type landslides as the detectable target. For the landslides recognition analysis, dual and quad polarized data of ALOS/PALSAR has applied. And, polarimetric InSAR type analysis and polarimetric phase coherence analysis has applied for landslides recognition. Each analysis shows good performance to recognize landslides, was confirmed.
