As the level of environmental regulation and the demand for high performance construction vehicles are increased every year, most of automatic transmission adopts an electronic controller to enhance the quality of shift as well as fuel economy. TCU, which consists of electric circuit hardware and system program software, plays an important role in managing the transmission control. Transmission simulator is a firmware development equipment that simulates the various kind of TCU input signals in real-time in order to save the design cost and time. This paper explains the development of embedded transmission simulator the whole functions are executed by TCU processor along with the shift control firmware. In addition to the computation of speed for fixed gears and during shift, its design includes the virtual fault code generation to verify the diagnosis and fail-safe TCU algorithm under development.
