Integrated Medical Image Registration, Patient Positioning, and Patient Monitoring for Cranial BNCT

Ideal treatment planning for irradiation of brain tumors using BNCT involves a combination of temporal and spatial targeting. Spatial targeting, or target volume selection, is accomplished by CT and MR imaging during treatment planning. CT offers the highest quality geometric accuracy and serves as the geometric model for Monte Carlo simulations in our treatment planning system.1 Contrast enhanced MR offers the best description of the tumor and surrounding areas of edema. In addition, in the future, PET scanning may be employed to aid in identifying the target temporally.
