Modelling and adaptive predictive control of a continuous fermentation process

Abstract This paper deals with the modelling and adaptive predictive control of a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The problem of simultaneous regulation and tracking of biomass concentration is studies. A discrete adaptive controller using on-line estimation of the specific growth rate is developed. Stability and robustness of this adaptive scheme is provided in the sense of signal boundedness. Good simulation results have been obtained in regulation and tracking, disturbance rejection, and transient behavior, showing the efficiency of this adaptive predictive control scheme.
