Transient stability improvement of power systems using nonlinear excitation, phase shifter and adaptive control law

A power system is a typical example of a nonlinear system. Its nonlinearity is amplified following a severe disturbance and it precludes the use of classical linear control techniques. In this paper, an adaptive nonlinear excitation and static phase shifter (SPS) controller is proposed to enhance the transient stability of a power system. The authors' simulation results demonstrate that the proposed controller can ensure the transient stability of a power system under a large sudden fault which may occur at the generator bus terminal.
