Auditory Computation: An Overview

Our purpose in this chapter is to provide the reader with a brief introduction to the computational approach for understanding auditory information processing. First we briefly outline the key characteristics, and virtues, of the computational approach. Second, we suggest a general framework within which the approach can be applied to the analysis of auditory function. And finally, we exploit this framework to identify and integrate contributions provided in the chapters comprising the remainder of the volume.
