An Adaptive Controller for Industrial Needs

Advanced control holds important potential for improving industrial productivity, product quality and safety. In order for such methods to be a feasible option for competitive companies, several conditions must be satisfied. Firstly, time and effort from design and simulation to implementation must be minimal; secondly, the implementation must support relevant safety features; and thirdly, the implemented algorithm ought to be selected according to industrial reality rather than mathematical elegance. In this paper we report on-going work to develop an integrated analysis, design and implementation toolbox that meets these conditions. The paper covers the basic structure of the toolbox, and other issues such as PID design, on-line estimation, estimation with partial prior information, event triggered adaptive control and illustrative applications.
