Constrained Control to Prevent Dynamic Stall of Ship Fin Stabilizers

Abstract In high sea states, the effectiveness of fin stabilizers can severely deteriorate due to non-linear effects arising from unsteady hydrodynamic characteristics of the fins; namely dynamic stall. In this paper, we review some concepts related to this phenomenon, and suggest the application of a constrained control strategy to prevent the development of these non-linear effects for fin stabilizers.
