A novel dual-polarized dielectric resonator antenna for 3.5 GHz LTE base station

A novel dual-polarized dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) for 3.5 GHz LTE base station is presented in this paper. In the design, a hybrid feeding technique is used to obtain high-isolation and low cross-polarization. The bandwidths of both ports are increased by digging a symmetric hole in the dielectric resonator (DR). In addition, the symmetric radiation patterns could be obtained because of the strictly symmetric configuration of the antenna. Simulated result demonstrates that, the impedance bandwidths (VSWR <; 1.5) for port 1 and port 2 are 10% (3.31-4.62GHz) and 14% (3.35-3.85 GHz), respectively. High isolation (>34dB) and low cross-polarization level (>30dB) are also achieved over the entire operating bandwidth. The antenna has symmetric radiation patterns and 90 ± 5° half-power beamwidths in both ports.
