Design and study of speed control of DC motor using Youla parameterization and PID controller

This paper presents a relative performance analysis of a separately excited DC Motor through two different control action. The approach here uses linear control law designed in the layout of Youla Parameterization and the classical Proportional Integral and Derivative (PID) controllers. Comparison of the closed loop performance is done based on the simulation results obtained using Matlab/Simulink environment. The PID Controller parameters are tuned using the relay feedback method and Zeigler Nichol's tuning table. The Youla control design is based on plant model inversion concept for better tracking. The dynamic study is done by inserting a white noise as disturbance to input of the motor. The simulation results reflect the dominance of the conventional controller over the proposed controller.
