Abstract Ambient intelligence is a new exciting and rewarding field for a multi-disciplinary engineering effort. Microsystem technology, wireless communication, pervasive computing are some of the technologies needed. Soft computing can provide many useful solutions to the difficult problems posed by the new challenges of ambient intelligence.
