Master-slave technique for improving the efficiency of interleaved synchronous boost converters

The interleaved multiphase modularization is an interesting approach for DC-DC converters in order to provide high power density, low current ripple and high efficiency. This paper explores a modularization based on a master-slave technique for improving the efficiency of a multiphase interleaved synchronous boost converter. The proposed technique is compared with the classic interleaved solution (i.e. the current sharing or balanced technique) and with the unbalanced technique. The proposed technique is validated using theoretical and experimental results obtained with a prototype of 2kW, 150V input voltage and 400V output voltage.
