A Survey of Digital Image Segmentation Algorithms

Abstract : Computer vision is a rapidly expanding field that depends on the capability to automatically segment and, thus, to classify and interpret images. In this report, the primary computer vision subarea-segmentation-is investigated. Many of the latest publications on the subject of segmentation are detailed in a survey format. Special attention is given to a few specialized techniques for segmenting digital images. Powerful segmentation techniques are available; however. each technique is ad hoc. The creation of hybrid techniques seems to be a promising future research area with respect to current Navy digital mapping applications.
