Variable-Structure Control with Fuzzy Plant Model

Abstract In this paper, variable-structure control techniques will be applied to process whose models are known partly by analytic expressions and partly by rule bases that model some of their subsystems. The kind of uncertainty to deal with is not a parametric one, but the ambiguousness that derives from a possibly incomplete rulebase. The approach is different from that of using a fuzzy system (universal approximator) to synthesize an analytically obtained sliding control law. An application example points out the main characteristics of the approach.
