Analysis of Discrete-Time Systems

Our focus in this book is on digital signal processing algorithms of various types. Examples of such systems are digital filters and digital control systems. Our ultimate objective is to form an understanding of the effect that such algorithms have on the underlying continuous-time system. In this chapter, however, we will focus entirely on the ‘at-sample’ response. That is, we treat digital signal processing algorithms as simply a way of manipulating an input sequence {u[k]} to produce an output sequence {y[k]}. For the moment therefore, we will not explicitly focus on the intersample response. This will be done in later chapters.
